Mad River Valley Housing Coalition
The Mad River Valley Housing Coalition was created in April of 1989 to support the building of housing units in the Mad River Valley through education, information, advocacy, and endorsement; to serve as a source for developers, individuals, municipalities and nonprofits; and to create and administer possible funding resources for revolving or subsidy loan programs.
The Housing Coalition serves the Towns of Fayston, Warren, Waitsfield, Moretown and Duxbury, and generally meets the second Tuesday of the month at 5:30 at the General Wait House, 4061 Main Street in Waitsfield. Everyone is welcome, but please confirm meeting before coming with the MRVPD office at 496-7173.
Currently the Housing Coalition is working on a variety of projects.
Home + is a project to assist local homeowners in adding accessory apartments to their homes. This project is in the developing stages and would like offer permitting assistance, and perhaps design and construction assistance through the Yestermorrow Design/Build School.
Through coordination with the Valley Futures Network, the Housing Coalition is now looking into forming a Valley Land Bank. Conservation projects would be coordinated with the Mad River Watershed Conservation Partnership (a partnership between the Mad River Valley Planning District, the Friends of the Mad River and the Vermont Land Trust). We would hope to be able to find dual use properties where we could combine housing with conservation, and perhaps even agriculture.
